Running for a Cure: CGHS Hosts Annual Terry Fox Run

Tony Liang

Throughout the duration of the previous week, students of Colonel Gray Senior High School have been working in unison, fundraising towards The Terry Fox Foundation to achieve Terry’s beliefs of a world without cancer.

On October 4th of 2024, students and staff of CGHS gathered in the front yard for the annual Terry Fox School Run, a spirited event dedicated to raising awareness and funds for cancer research. The event began at 2:10 pm and lasted for a time span of one hour, during which participants ran or walked various distances. All money raised will go to The Terry Fox Foundation, contributing to groundbreaking research and initiatives aimed at curing cancer.

The Terry Fox Run was inspired by Terry Fox, a Canadian athlete who, in 1980, embarked on a cross-country run to raise awareness and funds for cancer research after losing a leg to the disease. His determination and spirit motivated millions across Canada and beyond, leading to the establishment of annual runs in schools worldwide.

The Terry Fox School Run not only honors a remarkable and impactful individual but also fosters a sense of community. With continued support, the fight against cancer remains strong. Let the relay of hope and Terry’s spirit inspire the generations to come, reminding us that every single effort counts in the battle against this disease.
