Twelve people attended the first meeting of the Colonel Gray Uno Club last Wednesday. The meeting started in room 238, but was moved next door to room 235 due to a scheduling conflict with the Help Centre.

Harry Cheng, president of the club, said that the club’s purpose is to “get everyone to play Uno together, as a way to make some new friends and relax from academic stress.” Despite this, those in attendance lamented that the majority of the club is currently composed of one friend group.

The meeting was not without a few stumbling blocks. Cheng told us, “I introduced my club to every table during lunch time. I was lucky enough to recruit 34 members. At the beginning, there were also problems, such as not enough Uno cards and no room. Fortunately, the Learning Center was willing to lend me their Uno card. Special thanks to Ms Aiyer who kindly lent me her room 238 for the meetings. It is not easy but with the help and support of many people. We established the club successfully.”

After moving over to room 235, Cheng began to write out the club information onto the class’ SMART Board. Members of the club were thankfully able to remove the marker with paper towel and ethanol.

Several minutes later, a student entered the room and informed Cheng that he had also written on the SMART Board in room 238. They soon returned to room 238 and were able to clean off the board fortunately.

After this slight hiccup, the group split into two tables and started playing Uno. According to Cheng, they usually play 1-2 games with the winners’ prizes being some snacks like candies, chocolate, etc. Obviously, the snacks are not the main things which gather all the club members together. It's fun. If you also want to play Uno with your friends, just drop off by room 235 on Wednesday during lunchtime. Just remember to share the snacks with us after winning!
